Explore Scientific 82 Deg 8.8 mm eyepiece
Finally had a chance to use the Explore Scientific , 82 degree , 8.8 mm eyepiece with my Sky Watcher , Esprit , ED APO 120 refractor this past week. Received the eyepiece last autumn , but no chance to use it due to eye surgery in hospital. Winter set in and I closed the observatory for the season. The eyepiece has performed very well during 3 observing sessions. M42 was viewed first and the wide angle really came into its own giving one the impression of suddenly walking into a wide screen movie at the theatre. The nebular cloud stood out with very good contrast against the background and the trapezium appeared crystal clear , like a tiny jewelled brooch. This eyepiece certainly utilizes the full capabilities of the Esprit 120's optical system.
The crescent moon was the next target that evening. The eyepiece did not disappoint. The view was spectacular. Getting down to business , smaller craterlets , sharply-defined shadows from mountain ranges and crater rims were all displayed in amazing contrast for the observer. With the improved seeing conditions moving in for the spring and summer , I look forward to using this eyepiece on many more occasions.
By the way , thanks to Steve for his input during our telephone conversation and thank you for the friendly , fast , efficient service in getting this item to my address in the mail. Ontario Telescope and Accessories will certainly continue to receive my business in the future.
