Skywatcher Quattro 150P

I got this scope as the best balance of aperture, weight, and cost for my HEQ-5 mount. I had an 8"f/4 but with the camera, filter wheel, guide scope etc. it was too heavy. I thought this would be perfect. And it will be. BUT! There is no manual - it wasn't just left out, SkyWatcher has not written one yet (as of Feb 2023). This meant that every step required research before setting the scope up: how to attach the autofocuser, how to adjust the focusing tube tension, how to collimate, which screw/bolt on the focuser does what, the backfocus required on the (included) coma corrector, etc. Some of the manual for the Quattro 8 applies, but it's a different focuser and so just transferring my gear over to the new scope took several days. Finally got things together for first light, and it turned out not bad. The scope is VERY susceptible to collimation (as any fast newtonian is) so don't skip that step if you are used to f/6 or longer scopes. Even without great colimation, the scope performed well on its first night, with no major coma detected across the frame of my ASI178mm camera from ZWO. I haven't tried it with a DSLR yet, which will doubtless show the real performance of the coma corrector. On balance, it's a good scope, especially if you are already used to fast Newtonians and have good collimation gear (not just an eyepiece cap or a laser, but an autocollimator as well). If you don't, count on adding $300-400 to the price to be able to use this scope to its full capability.
